Balayage & Ombre
Balayage and Ombre may sound that the names of two exotic
places but they are, in fact, hair colouring styles which are used to highlight
hair streaks in a different yet attractive way.
We, as hairstylists,
know the difference between an Ombre and a Balayage.
Balayage is the
“Technique”
Balayage has been around for a while, but this timeless
technique is creeping its way back into being one of the most popular hair
color requests in salons today.
Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It
allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour – similar to what nature
gives us as children – with softer, less noticeable re growth lines. The
principal idea being less is more when creating soft, natural looks.
Balayage is applied on the surface and not saturated through
the section until the very tips, otherwise you would have a streak of colour
that isn’t very soft at all. It can also be called a freehand technique because
no foil or meche are used to create the highlights.
It’s a technique that becoming better known because all the
models and A-listers are wearing it.
Healthy hair is
attractive hair and that’ll never go out of fashion. Balayage gives a gorgeous
healthy finish that looks nature-enhanced, glossy and expensive. It can be
natural or strong, whatever you want, it’s all about the application technique.
Ombre is the
‘'Technique’’
The hair world borrowed the term 'Ombre' from the French
word meaning shaded or shading. Ombre hair
color is generally darker at the roots through the mid-shaft and then gradually
gets lighter from the mid-shaft to the ends. It is usually achieved using a
balayage technique and is ideal for clients looking for a low-maintenance
style.
The Ombre technique can seem intimidating to stylists that
are used to the control of foils but as difficult as this technique can look,
the results are always gorgeous and way easier than you think.
One of the many reasons this technique is so great is that
it looks good on almost anyone. Ombre requires very little upkeep, making it
easier for it to remain on trend.
